A Herald of His Kingdom Article
In this dream, I was obviously in the midst of a terrible storm, though I was never fearful, only sensibly alert. It seemed to fluctuate between calm winds and waters, and more furious winds and waters, and the storm had caused major flooding so that the land took on the appearance of being a large body of water. I knew it was the land because of the buildings that were standing in the midst of the water.

The area where I was seemed to be more of a country setting. I was in a house that was more like a camp than someone's permanent dwelling, and there were lots of windows looking out to the scenery which would have been obviously very beautiful in better times, with rolling hills and mountain vistas, though our immediate surroundings were very flat as it was all under water. Out toward the greater expanse of the view toward the horizon, skies were a bit clearer, and the colors of the landscape and terrain more vivid because that area was not affected by the storm. Any light I had to see either inside of the house, or outside of the house was the light that came from off those hills and mountains in the distance which were not under the prevailing storm clouds.

The immediate scene, however, was all water, with some trees, except for the structures in the dream.

The wind was blowing, and screens and doors were rattling, and I had concern that I needed to secure things better, but at the same time, I was not fearful, just very aware of the circumstances. I was also concerned about the safety of my family, and wanting them to be sheltered from the storm.

At some point I became aware that I was on or near the property of a certain person, and I wondered what she was up to herself, and I looked outside, and saw two things that she had obviously built, though she had not built the structure I was in. This was simply knowledge I had in the dream.

One was a slide, very uniquely built, as if we were in a water park. The slide was made of a very sturdy leathery material, or at least it appeared quite sturdy in the dream. I remember studying this structure in the dream, and realizing that though it was in the water, it was very secure. It was a deep tan in color. It was at least 8 feet wide, and the slide was very high, probably at least 16 to 20 feet, and the drop down this slide was very steep. I remember very specifically looking to see how the bottom of the slide went into the water, and the depth of the water at the bottom of the slide. It simply curved at the end of the drop into a long mat (connected material of leather) under the water, and it was shallow enough that I could see it, no more than a foot deep, but beyond the mat the water dropped off, and I had no idea what the depth of the water was, but my conclusion was that it got quickly deeper to the point that not very far from the slide itself, it would be too deep to stand.

On this slide, a trim young woman in an athletic bathing suit and bathing cap was going down the slide head first on her belly into the water. She was obviously enjoying herself. Seemed there were one or two others also going down the slide, but I remember thinking in the dream that maybe I would like to go down "head first", too as perhaps there was a reason she was doing this, and maybe it was the more "safe" way to go down the slide?? Others seemed to go down just the normal way, seated and going straight down. In the dream, and throughout the dream, it seemed I kept toying with the idea of trying out the slide, but other responsibilities with the storm kept me too busy to ever actually do it, and in the dream I seemed to realize that this was a distraction, at least for myself.

The other edifice this woman had built was a long narrow building that resembled a long trailer, or even an ark, but it was very stationery. It was surrounded by water, as was also the main house. It had a roof and walls, but no windows. The color was deep red, and the siding was like some kind of boards, very tightly assembled, and the roof was a black, shingled roof, with a slight pitch to it. When I went inside of this building, all I saw was one long room with seating along the sides, and it was very well lit by fluorescent lights . No one was in the building, but it was obviously built with the expectation someone would be there, and it was prepared to receive people.

Again, I found myself in the main structure, doors and windows rattling, and the storm was raging around me, and I often looked out the windows at the two structures, which seemed to distract my attention a lot from securing the main building I was in. Yet, my main desire in this dream was to be in the larger house, keeping an eye on the storm which was my main activity through the course of this dream, and no matter what the state of the storm, whether the winds were blowing gently or whether the rains and winds were vehement against this structure, I was not afraid, simply very aware of the work that needed to be done.

My own interpretation of this dream is as follows:

We are in a storm, and it's not going to quickly pass over, but we need to be prepared for it as a fact of life we may have to deal with for some time to come. I was not consumed with fear of this storm in my dream. There is no reason to be fearful, but we must be attentive to the things that need to be done. In my dream, I was not as attentive as I should have been to securing things that needed to be secured, mainly the doors and windows in the main structure of the dream.

We cannot have a sloppy, haphazard attitude toward the structure when there are storms raging about us. This is a good place to do a lot of scriptural research on words like "gates, walls, windows, doors", as it applies to the church of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In my spirit, I am very aware that there is a "kingdom message" that is very interested in the huge picture, (thus represented in my dream by the vast, beautiful scenery, and rolling hills and mountains) but misses attentiveness to the present truth reality of exactly where we are at in God's economy, and being too dismissive of the stabilizing role of the Church in our society, which is the pillar and ground of the truth, in troubled times will prove to be deadly.

There is something people fail to realize: You can be committed to the Church, and clearly see and perceive the message of the kingdom at the same time. Some are preaching that God is doing away with the Church as it is being " replaced" by the kingdom. This is serious error. It causes people to fear that if they are committed to a local body of Believers, they will "miss" the "new thing" that God is doing.

The Church of our Lord Jesus Christ is eternal, not temporal, and without a Church, gloriously conforming to the character of our Lord in every way, in spirit, word and deed, there will be no expression of the kingdom of God, the reign of God in the earth.

Now, what about the "local church"?? Many now delight in saying they have no need to assemble with others in a church building because they ARE the church. Yes, the church is not a building. It is truly the " called out "ones. Ekkelesia means the "called out ones".

But common sense steps in here, like wisdom crying from the streets in the book of Proverbs!!! In order for the "members to meet", there needs to be "joints that supply" a location of meeting. There has always been a place of gathering for the saints, and to shun this basic truth to embrace isolationism for a kingdom message is a behavior rooted in spiritual pride, and perhaps even a bit of rebellion, and delusion. See Hebrews 10:24-25. Run references on words such as assembly, and congregation. Consider also that the "falling away" spoken of by Paul to the Thessalonians in Chapter 2 of 2 Thessalonians could possibly be the rejection of the local church by many who now profess to be spiritually beyond the need of a local body or the ministry of a local church.

What about the remnant? The elect? Aren't these Overcomers the ones whom the Lord will raise up as the executors of the kingdom of God in the earth? Aren't these "selected servants" the ones upon whom mighty anointings and mantels will fall to bring forth God's will and purposes in the last days? Yes, the book of Revelation is very clear about the reward of the Overcomer. See Revelation 3:5, 3:12, 3:21, and 21:17.

But what was again and again and again the proving and testing ground of the Overcomer? It is in the context of a local body of believers where one is most often tried and refined in the fire. When the churches were addressed in the book of Revelation, it was within the context of the problematic issue that the Lord was seeking an Overcomer to rise up into a place of victory. Read Revelation 2, in entirety, paying attention to the admonitions and promises to the Overcomer in each church.

In my dream, the main house was full of windows which made up most of the walls of the structure. Windows are places for vision, but the windows needed to be secured!! In times of storm, if you forsake the spiritual security of the Word of God and the practicality of 5-fold ministry to the church for lofty vision, eventually those windows will blow off the structure, and you'll be blown about with every deceiving wind of doctrine that comes along!!

Now remember, it was a woman who had built the slide, and the other secure building. In the Bible, "woman" often speaks of a church, whether a good church or an evil church.

The slide in the dream reminded me of something the Lord spoke to me some months ago. He told me "Do not be overly concerned with what goes on in the shallows." The "shallows" is the place of enjoyment and comfort for the immature. The impression of the slide was that it was very adventuresome, and even enticing in somewhat of a "daring" way. The young woman who was going down the slide, head first on her belly, I believe speaks of multitudes who have immersed themselves in a mindset of enjoying splashing around and availing themselves of the refreshing waters of the "river" movement and the "drunken movement" without much thought to spiritual growth beyond being at that spiritually intoxicating place.

There is much going on in the church today that seems even bordering on downright silliness. My tendency was to want to correct this, but God stopped me. He told me to recognize it for what it is: child's play, and child's play is a necessary part of the growth process. Just let it be, and let those who are called to minister to ones in that state of their spiritual growth tend to them. Others may be called to address these issues, but for myself, the Lord gave me a word to leave it alone.

Interesting that the slide was made of leather. I asked the Lord about this, and two facts of scripture were brought to mind. When Adam and Eve needed covering for their sin, the Lord made them "coats of skin". The outer covering of the tabernacle was made of badger's skins dyed red. What is leather? It is animal's skin. For the newborn babe in Christ, the constant source of joy and delight is the message of salvation, and the truth that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. If all one talks about is salvation, getting saved, being born again, with nothing beyond that of deeper truth coming out of their mouths, it's either a testimony to their present level of spiritual maturity, or they are called to be a teacher and shepherd to babes in Christ.

The very sad fact about this slide is the color. It was tan. I looked this up on a website that shares the symbolism on colors, and this color represents a "watered down gospel". How many are enjoying the slippery slide of a watered-down gospel? The basic truth of the gospel is definitely there, but it's watered down. And because it is watered-down, it will never have the impact on a life that an uncompromised gospel that preaches repentance and true transformation will have upon one who receives it in its fullness.

The fact that in my dream this slide was very stationery speaks to me that sad as it may be, a watered-down gospel is here to stay and will be something the true Church is going to have to contend with until the Lord sends His messengers who will deal with things like this, even as these Messengers sent from God will deal with the tares that grow up along side of the wheat. (See Matthew 13:25-30)

The fact that the woman in my dream had built these two structures showed to me an element in the church that has a responsibility to two areas of ministry: 1. The spiritual pleasure of those in the state of spiritual infancy and childhood. 2. The spiritual safety of those in the state of spiritual infancy, and childhood.

Notice the main structure was one fully given to vision. One could see outside, to the surroundings all about . There were definitely windows on the ever-increasing kingdom of God, as represented by hills and mountains. And I believe the fact that these structures were all in a very country setting simply shows that there will be places of refuge in the times of storm. When one thinks of a place of refuge, the mind usually goes to an area that is remote, away from more populated areas. One thinks of "retreat".

The "trailer-like" structure, did not seem to have any windows, and yet it was well lit. It was a structure meant completely for safety and protection, and not for dreams and visions. It was built by the woman builder for a shelter from the storm for whoever she was going to receive into that structure. In my dream, I was curious about this building, and looked inside of it to see what it was like, but I had no desire to stay there. I wanted to get back to the larger structure, the one where I could be safe from the storm, and yet at the same time see it's affects all around me.

What was troubling about this trailer? It's similar to what was troubling about the slide. The slide represented a "watered down gospel". In this trailer-like structure, the light was bright enough to see, but it was an artificial light. Sadly, there is an element within the church protecting God's people from the light of truth, and instead providing a counterfeit light. This light seemed very secure, but what of the storm?? As the storm increased, affecting the power source, it could completely black out anything of a man-made nature. So, in reality, even though this structure appeared to be the safer place, it was a deception.

Both of these structures would have spoken to me entirely differently with a few minor changes. If the leather of the slide had been red instead of tan, I would have seen it as an uncompromised gospel message. If the light in the trailer had been provided by the sun, or by a lamp with a fire in it, I would have seen it as true revelation and light of the Word of God.

But they were what they were. And yet, I awoke with the awareness of this reality: The woman who built the tan slide, and the trailer with artifical lights was truly a Christian woman, but her works were the substance of mixture.

In my dream, the safest structure was the one that outwardly might appear to be the most compromised. In some ways, it seemed more like a "camp" than a permanent, sturdy dwelling, and yet it's foundation was very secure.

Windows and doors were rattling, and needed to be repaired. But from that building, I could see everything going on both outwardly, and inwardly, and though there were flaws, and issues that needed to be addressed, I could keep my eye on both the storm, as well as His coming Kingdom because the light that was provided to that structure was not an artifical light, but it was actually the natural sunlight coming from the distance, bouncing off those hills and mountains not affected by the storm.

In the time of storm, a true vision and understanding of the kingdom of God is what will give those who are waiting for His appearing the sense of security. In my dream, I was always aware of what needed to be corrected even in the midst of the most boisterous and ferocious winds and waves, but I was not afraid.

For anyone who believes this dream is the Lord speaking, I feel there are some obvious questions:

1. What is your role in navigating the present storms we are in both as country, and as part of the body of Christ?

2. Have you realized in your own spiritual life the importance of balancing vision with the safe boundaries of the Word of God?

3. Are you wasting time being overly concerned with things happening in different spiritual movements that may appear to you as utter nonsense, but it's just children behaving like children, and not something that should be absorbing your time? Again, you need to hear personally from the Lord on this matter. God's word to me was, "Do not be overly concerned with what goes on in the shallows".

4. Are you looking at problems and flaws in the church as a reason to reject the church, rather than asking the Lord how you can be useful to bring stability and correction?

5. Are you properly valuing the role of the Church, and indeed even the "local church" in troubled times?

6. Are you receiving light and hope from a vision of the coming Kingdom of God that will help you to see clearly in the storm so that you maintain a peace that passes all understanding when the natural mind would tell you to be fearful?

7. Finally, If you love the Lord, but have gotten too far out of fellowship with the body of Christ, are you seeking the Lord for a course correction that you might heed the admonition of not forsaking the assembly of saints more and more as the evil day approaches?

As I am doing myself, I invite you to give consideration to these matters.

Amen and Amen!!

Always in the Love of Jesus,
